Scar Work · ScarWork

Every scar has its own history. Some become soft and inconspicuous, while others remain hard, knotted, drawn inward or less mobile in their surroundings. ScarWork according to Sharon Wheeler approaches the tissue gradually and predominantly gently.

Scars from operations, accidents or injuries heal in very different ways. Every scar is unique in its history and in how the tissue feels and moves.

The scar and its surroundings

Some scars soon become soft and inconspicuous. Others remain hard, rigid, knotted or drawn inward. Even small scars from minimally invasive procedures may feel different in deeper layers of tissue than their outward appearance suggests.

ScarWork according to Sharon Wheeler

ScarWork uses numerous specific, mostly gentle qualities of touch. The work begins at the surface and can gradually include deeper tissue layers. It is generally largely pain-free.

Only fully healed scars are treated – even if they were formed many years ago. A particular outcome cannot be predicted.

I am a trained ScarWork Practitioner and combine this work with my experience in connective-tissue work and bodywork.

Medical context

Symptoms whose cause is unclear or which may be potentially dangerous should be assessed by a physician. My work does not replace necessary medical treatment. I am not aware of scientific recognition of the effectiveness of the methods and approaches I use.
