Anxiety, stress and inner tension

Perceiving physical signals, respecting protective responses and allowing new experiences of support.

Stress and anxiety do not appear only in thoughts. Breathing changes, muscles tense, the field of vision narrows, and sleep and digestion can be affected. Some people feel permanently on alert, while others withdraw or lose contact with their body.

Respecting protective responses

Tension, vigilance or withdrawal often have a protective function. I therefore do not try to make these responses “go away” against your will. The first step is to notice what supports safety, distance and orientation.

A body-psychotherapeutic approach

Anxiety, persistent stress and inner tension can be a reason for body-psychotherapeutic treatment. Depending on the situation, conversation, body awareness, breathing, movement, hypnosis or carefully agreed touch may be included. You are involved in deciding what may happen. Consent can be changed or withdrawn at any time.

In an acute crisis

My practice is not the appropriate service in an acute crisis or where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Immediate psychiatric, medical or psychotherapeutic help is required in these situations.

Medical context

Symptoms whose cause is unclear or that could indicate a serious condition should be medically assessed. My work does not replace necessary medical treatment. I am not aware of scientific recognition of the effectiveness of the methods and approaches I use.
