Psychosomatic symptoms

Considering physical and emotional experience together without explaining symptoms prematurely.

Body and psyche are not separate worlds. Experiences, emotions and strain can become physically perceptible, while physical illnesses also affect emotional experience.

Not imagined and not “only psychological”

The term psychosomatic must not be used to dismiss genuine symptoms or attribute them prematurely to a presumed emotional cause. I understand it as an invitation to remain open to physical, emotional, biographical and social connections.

Body-psychotherapeutic treatment

Within my work as a Heilpraktiker, psychosomatic symptoms can constitute a specific reason for treatment. Through touch, movement, breathing, conversation and focused attention, we include physical and emotional experience together. The aim is not to explain symptoms prematurely, but to perceive their connections in a differentiated way and develop new possibilities for action.

Remaining open to different connections

A body-oriented approach does not determine in advance what has caused particular symptoms. We clarify individually what form of work is suitable, recognising that physical and emotional factors may carry different weight.

Medical context

Symptoms whose cause is unclear or that could indicate a serious condition should be medically assessed. My work does not replace necessary medical treatment. I am not aware of scientific recognition of the effectiveness of the methods and approaches I use.
